From a land that is rich in jade, gems, petroleum and other sources, comes a young man who wants to exude elegance, sweetness and opulence from the garments that he creates with his own hands. His name is Jackson Skyler.

Skyler shared with Girl’s Voice Media that ever since he was little, he loved fashion and things that were, in its essence, pretty. So, he looked at his grandmother, a tailor, while she was tweaking clothes on her sewing machine, and he started taking notes and practice while everyone else was asleep.

“She had her own sewing machine and she made her own stuff at home. But I told my grandma to teach me, but she refused because she thought that job wasn’t meant for boys. I just watched her how she used the machine and, when she went to sleep, I tried to play with the machine”, explained the now Chicago resident while he added that after a few years, he made the decision to leave his homeland and find greater opportunities in the United States.

After arriving to the mainland, Skyler did not stop sketching and moving around. He bought his first sewing machine, a few yards of fabric and started “playing around”. And from that moment, Royal Rose was born. He knew what he was getting into, challenges and all, yet that did not stop him from building his business. “You know what are you into and who you want to be when you grow up. If you have the abilities and the confidence, you can push yourself to do whatever you want. That’s why I stayed strong and positive, even with the struggles ahead. I will not give up”, he affirmed.

Although he is living out his dream, Skyler recognizes the pressure of living under a country where racial tension is still high. He shared that, although living in the States have brought him great opportunities and confidence, he feels like he must play safe in certain aspects of his career. “There are good and bad people everywhere. I got some neighbors that are good, others that are bad. As a fashion designer, I must deal with models who have had a very bad attitude on me. So I must play nice, so others won’t end up judging the book by its cover”, he commented.

Skyler said that his business is doing great, developing two collections a year, which is being enough to sustain his dreams and personal life. One of the goals that he wants to accomplish in his life as a fashion designer is for the world to recognize that Chicago can be a powerful fashion capital such as New York, Paris, Milan, or many others.
While conversing with this platform, the enthusiastic Burmese creative invited our readers to do whatever makes you feel loved. “To anyone out there, do what you love the most. If you want to be an artist, a musician, make clothes, you must believe it and work on it.”, he concluded.
